If you’ve ever lived in an African village, you know the sound of guinea fowl before you see them. They march around like feathered security guards, shout at anything that moves, and lay eggs with shells so tough you could probably use them as building materials. But behind their comic confidence lies a serious opportunity for food security.  A recent study carried out by a member of the GFRN has given us fresh insight into how to make the most of these remarkable birds.

We’re working together as a group to understand what helps guinea fowl thrive, and how that knowledge can support smallholder farmers and strengthen sustainable farming systems around the world. When we set up the Guinea Fowl Research Network (GFRN) we wanted to make sure that we could reach as many people as possible to gather a critical mass and really bring the guinea fowl to the fore of current research. So, the idea of this website, a shared space and interactive hub, was born!
